Playwright Ernest Royce is discovered murdered, shot in a way that mirrors a scene from one of his unpublished works. This play features characters strikingly similar to real individuals and revolves around the actual assassination of a notorious New York mobster from years past. Perry's client, Frank Brooks, stands accused of Royce's killing, prompting Perry to search for the elusive final act of the play to exonerate him.
