Gangland (2007)

S2E9 Gangster Inc.

May 15, 2008 Season 2 Episode 9 Documentary

Throughout the 1980s, Chicago's most formidable street gang grew rapidly, ultimately amassing a membership of around 30,000. As the city became too small to contain their ambitions, the gang extended its reach to other Midwest cities like Milwaukee. The Gangster Disciples swiftly dominated smaller towns through fear, intimidation, and brutality. With the onset of the crack-cocaine epidemic, they capitalized on the chaos, operating like a Fortune 500 enterprise and generating estimated annual profits of $100 million. However, in 1995, a federal indictment arrested 40 prominent members, including their leader, Larry Hoover, leading to a brutal scramble for power among the gang. Through the perspective of the Gangster Disciples, we witness the rise and collapse of this drug empire, marred by greed and violence.
