At a chess competition featuring Leland College students against a Soviet team, tensions rise as Alex faces off against Ivan Rozmirovich. What begins as a battle of intellect soon escalates into a metaphorical wrestling match for national pride. Alex feels compelled to triumph over the Russian, perceiving it as a patriotic obligation. However, as the match unfolds, he starts to see Ivan in a different light, understanding that he may not be the adversary he initially imagined.
