Dave feels isolated as his classmates turn against him, but he persists in questioning why Adam receives preferential treatment. When he tries to enter the girls' restroom in a skirt, a confrontation with Adam erupts. Principal Simpson steps in, assigning both of them detention. Adam compares the transgender issue to racism, prompting Dave to offer a formal apology. Meanwhile, Clare pressures Katie for a spot on the school newspaper. Sav steps in, and Katie ultimately invites Clare to join, assigning her to cover the school play. As Fiona attempts to connect with the distant Charlie, she is appointed as the play's director and invites him to move in with her.
