Beneath the bright full moon, Alison spotted the cat lying on its back, head tilted at an odd angle, with its four paws sticking straight up. From her high bedroom window, she immediately identified the cat. It was Rip. Deep down, Alison realized, without needing to go downstairs, that she had done it again. She had killed him for the third time.
