After Homer accidentally injures the local firefighters during a sleepwalking episode, he, Apu, Moe, and Skinner step up to volunteer as firemen. Initially, they resort to a bit of petty looting at the fire scenes to compensate for their lack of pay. However, Marge and Lisa confront them about their behavior, prompting the group to reconsider their actions and strive to do the right thing.
