While administering a driving test to Mr. Burns, Selma suddenly suffers a strong hot flash. Dr. Hibbert informs her that she’s starting to go through menopause. Determined not to face aging alone, Selma decides she wants a child. Although adoption is mentioned, the local orphanage is devoid of children. Lisa proposes the idea of adopting a baby girl from China, but when Selma learns that the Chinese government permits only married couples to adopt, she impulsively lists Homer as her husband on the application.
