After spending 14 years in self-imposed isolation on Welfare Island (now Roosevelt Island), a young woman who harbors a lethal infectious disease decides to venture into Manhattan in search of a "normal" life. The NYPD is alerted to her presence and races against time to locate her before the "Van Nortons Sawyers Fever" spreads and leads to a catastrophic outbreak.
