Mrs. Olesen might finally succeed in sending the "homely" Ingalls packing from Walnut Grove when the family receives a significant inheritance from a rich relative. Despite their reservations, Charles decides to invest the money in new farm equipment and other supplies, only to later discover that he had spent worthless Confederate currency for his purchases.
