Even though Ricky has his reservations, Lucy chooses to assist Fred in selecting a birthday gift for Ethel. The gift ends up being a pair of toreador pants, which Ethel finds not just unflattering but also "unfitting." This leads to escalating tension between the two women, pushing their friendship to the brink of collapse.
