After Paul Pennyfeather is unjustly dismissed from Oxford University, he is left with no choice but to accept a teaching position at a mediocre boarding school in the Welsh countryside. In this new setting, he encounters a vibrant array of personalities, including the captivating Margot Beste-Chetwynde, a rich widow who has her sights set on the unsuspecting Paul.
