Speed with Guy Martin (2013)

S1E2 Hydroplaning Bike

Jan 05, 2014 Season 1 Episode 2 Documentary, Action & Adventure

Guy sets out to break the world record for riding a motorcycle on water. Collaborating with a Cambridge professor and a group of marine engineers, his stunt is based on Sir Isaac Newton's Third Law of Motion, which states that every action has an equal and opposite reaction. If Guy can reach the necessary speed on his motorcycle, he might just pull off the extraordinary feat. The team fine-tunes the bike’s rear wheel and additional modifications to allow it to glide over the lake's surface. Anticipating crashes, Guy undergoes intense training, practicing escapes from a submersion rig and executing high-speed trial runs, hitting the water at 30mph. His record attempt culminates at Bala Lake in Snowdonia, a deep expanse capable of submerging a 10-story building, with rescue teams and divers on standby.
