On January 16, 2002, as Garuda Indonesia Flight 421 nears Yogyakarta after a standard domestic journey from Ampenan, it encounters a violent thunderstorm that leads to a dual engine failure. The aircraft ultimately makes an emergency landing in the Bengawan Solo River. Remarkably, 59 of the 60 individuals on board manage to escape unharmed.
