Jed refuses to be intimidated by Haffley's threats, leading to a government shutdown. Concerned for Jed's welfare, Leo calls for assistance, prompting Abbey to return to Washington to offer her husband some much-needed clarity. Meanwhile, after being sidelined from staff meetings, Josh is reinstated by Jed and begins strategizing for success. Ignoring the counsel of his more experienced peers, Haffley makes a significant error that undermines his leverage against the White House. Ultimately, Jed and Haffley come together to negotiate a budget agreement.
