In 1692, the town of Salem, Massachusetts, became the backdrop for one of history’s darkest injustices, as 19 innocent souls were executed and another crushed to death, all accused of witchcraft. Today, Salem is infamous for its ghostly legends linked to the trials. Four significant sites echo with the cries of the wronged: a restaurant once an apple orchard where the first victim was seized; a cemetery housing the grave of a man pressed to death; a historic home where two influential judges condemned many; and Gallows Hill, the site of the hangings. Yet, was there a deeper truth behind the Salem Witch Trials, beyond mere greed and paranoia?
