Lord Ashfordly's winter pheasant shoot faces chaos after the entire game larder is pilfered. Meanwhile, petty thefts plague Nick's territory, leading him to suspect that an inappropriate relationship is behind the crimes. Susan Rawlings, the teenage daughter of Lord Ashfordly's gamekeeper, is pregnant and resorts to stealing money from Greengrass to fund an illegal abortion. Unbeknownst to her, her brother Chris has taken the pheasants to gather cash for the same reason. After Susan undergoes the procedure, she ends up hospitalized. Concerned, Kate and Ferrenby confront the woman who performed the abortion, warning her of the risks involved. It is later revealed that Chris is the father of Susan's unborn child.
