In 1989, a plain 33-year-old woman is shot and killed in an alley, leaving her murder unresolved. Years later, the case is reopened when a tape of the victim, created for a dating service, is discovered in the apartment of a man who recently took his own life. It seems he was watching the tape just before his death. Meanwhile, Vera is settling into a new apartment of his own.
