The New Yankee Workshop (1989)

S15E4 Cigar Chair (1)

Jan 25, 2003 Season 15 Episode 4 Reality

While chatting with a journalist, Norm revealed that he had never crafted an upholstered item. This sparked an opportunity to collaborate with Lee Industries in Newton, North Carolina, a renowned furniture manufacturer. In the first episode of a two-part series, Norm explores the Lee Industries factory to learn about the production of upholstered chairs and sofas. He is guided by Norman Coley, whose family has been in the furniture business in North Carolina for four decades. Coley proposes that Norm create a "cigar" chair, which doesn't require sewing. Back in his workshop, Norm begins by constructing the sturdy hard maple frame that will serve as the foundation for this elegant chair. This is part one of the series.
