Charlie is overwhelmed by the demands of management after receiving a critical letter from headquarters regarding his accounting, while the chambermaids threaten to strike due to unpaid wages. His spirits lift when an old friend arrives for a jewellery auction at the hotel, but a looming financial crisis causes him to turn to an unreliable source for assistance, putting everyone in the hotel at risk.
