Bonnie, now more powerful, takes it upon herself to be Damon's moral guide, vigilantly monitoring his actions as he discreetly checks on Alaric, who is grappling with the loss of his fiancée Jo. Meanwhile, Stefan is preoccupied with protecting Mystic Falls from Lily and her Heretic family, who have begun causing chaos. In a different part of town, Enzo wrestles with his place in Lily's orbit, forced to confront his true loyalties. As tensions rise, newly qualified deputy Matt joins forces with Stefan and Caroline to confront the Heretics, but an unforeseen twist puts one of them in peril.
