After being laid off due to a newspaper strike, Tom attempts to mediate between the warring factions, inspired by Nicholas's thoughts on the importance of give-and-take. Meanwhile, to help the family save on expenses, Nicholas introduces a barter system. Chaos ensues when the Bradfords find themselves facing a five-car pile-up right in their driveway.
