Meanwhile, as sex tourists flocked to the city under the guise of appreciating art, Canaletto painted stunning vistas that served as the era's luxurious postcards. The height of this indulgence was the Carnival masked ball, where societal divisions dissolved. Yet, amidst the flourishing hedonism, an impending catastrophe loomed on the horizon.
