Episode Overview

Carter finds himself in a rivalry with new surgical resident Dale Edson after discovering that the residents’ performance will be assessed, with only the best advancing to their second year. The situation is complicated by Dale's past romance with Harper. Meanwhile, Mark becomes infatuated with Iris, an infomercial director. Peter grapples with the repercussions of his confrontation with Doug, as other surgeons start excluding him from surgeries. Shep shows increasing aggression, first towards a patient who mistreats Carol, then towards a passerby. Additionally, Susan and Chloe work to negotiate arrangements for Little Susie.
