After realizing the one-armed man isn’t the same person he saw escaping his home the night Helen was killed, Kimble narrowly evades Gerard’s pursuit and escapes Los Angeles. Seeking refuge in Santa Barbara, he finally opens up to Karen about his hidden truth. However, Gerard, following a lead left at the L.A. County Jail—a matchbook with “sails” on it—tracks him down. Once Kimble learns of Gerard's presence in Santa Barbara, he and Karen, aided by Eric, make a desperate escape by sailboat, aiming to fake their deaths in a storm to finally put an end to the chase.
