As the war erupts between the Systems Commonwealth and the Nietzschean fleets, Captain Dylan Hunt and his starship, the Andromeda Ascendant, make a desperate bid to escape a Nietzschean onslaught in order to alert the Commonwealth. During their escape, they become trapped in the event horizon of a black hole, causing them to be suspended in time for 300 years. Meanwhile, the crew of the Eureka Maru, led by Captain Beka Valentine, discovers the Andromeda and aims to salvage it for a hefty profit. After successfully extracting the ship, Hunt awakens from his time freeze and must protect his vessel from both the salvagers and Nietzschean mercenaries under Tyr Anasazi's command.
