A senior researcher in computer science, engaged in a top-secret government project, is discovered dead in his Hollywood Hills residence, with data missing from his computer. As the investigation unfolds, it becomes clear that the victim was entangled in a contentious divorce, attempting to shield his finances from his wife. Meanwhile, Charlie uncovers that the project the researcher was involved in could have connections to baseball.
