Episode Overview

Time Team couldn't resist the unique opportunity to excavate a living room, so they set their sights on a manor house in Nassington that had seen better days. While restoring the property, they uncovered large post holes that might indicate the presence of a Saxon great hall. Artifacts discovered on-site point to continuous habitation from the Iron Age to modern times, and historical records confirm that King Cnut owned Nassington. The team removes the flooring to dig three trenches inside the house, while additional trenches are excavated in the garden. It appears multiple halls were built on this site, but evidence of outbuildings has vanished. Graeme Lawson stops by with some Dark Ages musical instruments, crafting a reed pipe from elder wood to play the Time Team theme on pipe and lyre as the episode concludes.
