Alfred, a young first grader, finds himself infatuated with third grader Dodie Douglas, who is not thrilled about his feelings. When Uncle Charley extends an invitation for dinner, Dodie attempts to feign sickness to avoid attending. However, the situation takes a turn when Alfred's mother discovers that he has gone missing.
