George's future hangs in the balance as Tulkinghorn enlists the sinister moneylender Smallweed to intensify the pressure on him. Meanwhile, Guppy uncovers a shocking secret about Esther, leaving Lady Dedlock utterly shaken. In an act of compassion, Esther and Jarndyce take Jo, the ill crossing sweeper who is fleeing from Tulkinghorn’s enforcers, into their care. However, their generosity leads to an unforeseen twist.
