Overview

Mattie, a widow in rural Florida during Prohibition, finds herself drawn to the charismatic but deceitful bootlegger, Trax, who is significantly younger. In need of financial support, Trax pursues her relentlessly until she agrees to marry him. However, their union quickly reveals his true nature when he brings home a young woman ostensibly to help around the house, but clearly as his mistress. As Trax departs on business, both women reflect on their exploitation, prompting Mattie to devise a clever scheme to regain control over her life and circumstances.
