Thanos and Despina (1967)
Katina, a struggling Greek mother, is determined to secure a prosperous future for her son, Thanos, by arranging his marriage to Despina, the affluent daughter of a powerful landowner. However, their plans are thwarted when Despina’s father, Vlahopoulos, flatly denies his approval of the union. As Katina navigates the challenges of social status and familial expectations, the story explores themes of love, ambition, and the pursuit of happiness against the backdrop of class disparity in 1960s Greece.
