The Broken Landlord

Overview

The village landlord, the Agha, marries his elderly father to the beautiful young Kiraz. But on their wedding night, the old man dies, and misfortune descends on the Agha. A long drought, fueled by provocations from Kiraz’s brother, Kekec Salman, drives the peasants to steal the crops and flee to Istanbul. With no workers or harvest, the Agha is forced to sell the village and follow. Unable to adapt to city life, he squanders his fortune. As he falls, his wife and relatives abandon him.
