In 1959, Richard Oyler, a government worker in the small desert community of Lone Pine, California, approached the renowned modernist architect Richard Neutra about designing a simple home for his family. Much to Oyler's astonishment, Neutra accepted. What grew from that request was an improbable friendship that ultimately produced a landmark of mid-century modern architecture.
