The Seafarers

Overview

Stanley Kubrick’s inaugural color film was created for the Seafarers International Union to showcase the advantages of union membership. Filmed within the union’s Atlantic and Gulf Coast District facilities, it captures various aspects like ships, machinery, cafeteria interactions, and meetings, emphasizing the everyday life and camaraderie of seafarers. After being presumed lost for many years, the film was rediscovered in 1973 and has since been preserved by the Library of Congress.
