Painted Skin draws inspiration from Pu Songling's classic tale in Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio. Zhou Xun portrays Xiao Wei, a beguiling fox spirit who consumes human hearts to preserve her enchanting beauty. After General Wang Sheng (Chen Kun) saves her from a group of bandits, complications arise as Xiao Wei develops deep feelings for him.
