The Grapes of Wrath (1940)
After serving time in prison, Tom Joad arrives home only to discover that his family has lost their farm to foreclosure. He reunites with them at his uncle's place and decides to accompany them on a journey to California the following day, seeking a fresh start and the hope of better opportunities ahead.
