Overview

Set in Colombia shortly after World War I, an elderly man tumbles from a ladder, revealing his deep affection for his wife in his final moments. Following the funeral, a suitor approaches the grieving widow, only to be met with her ire. The narrative then shifts back over half a century to when Florentino Ariza, a young telegraph messenger, becomes enchanted by Fermina Daza, the daughter of a mule trader. Their love story unfolds amidst societal challenges and personal struggles, marking the beginning of a lifelong journey of longing and devotion.
