The Demi-Paradise (1943)
Ivan Kouznetsoff, a Russian engineer, reflects on his time in England before World War II, where he worked on innovative propeller designs for icebreakers. Initially, he views the British as superficial and hypocritical, leading to awkward interactions with his hosts, especially Ann Tisdall, whose family business will utilize his work. As Ivan spends more time in England, he discovers the depth of British humor and resilience.
