Set in ancient Rome under Emperor Nero's rule, young patrician Vinicius becomes enamored with Lygia, the daughter of a slain barbarian leader, seeking to claim her as his concubine. Lygia, a devout Christian, views this as a profound sin. When Vinicius sustains injuries, Lygia nurses him back to health, leading her to develop feelings for him.
