Journey to the West (2014)
Tsai Ming-Liang embarked on a cinematic adventure in 2014 when he was invited to contribute to the Marseille International Film Festival. Unfamiliar with the city, he chose to explore Marseille as a tourist, showcasing the enchanting Mediterranean sun during late summer. The film features renowned French actor Denis Lavant alongside Lee Kang-Sheng in the role of Xuanzang. "Journey to the West" garnered acclaim, being selected as the opening short film for the prestigious Berlin International Film Festival that same year, highlighting its artistic merit and cultural resonance.
