Love and Curses

An elderly hero leafs through a photo album, reminiscing about the Gay Nineties—especially a picnic that villainous Roger St. Clair ruined by trying to lure Emily away to the big city and from Harold. When she refuses, he abducts her by force. Six months later, Harold is still searching. Emily is made to sing “All Is Not Gold That Glitters” on the stage of Roger’s bar, backed by a barbershop quartet. Harold passes by and hears her. Roger knocks him out with the curtain and lashes Emily to the railroad tracks. Harold saves her, leading to a sawmill sequence, a shootout, and at last triumph for our hero. Back in the present, they wonder what became of Roger—his cue to appear.
