Reporter Ann Mitchell, facing dismissal, fabricates a letter from a fictitious "John Doe" claiming he will commit suicide to protest societal issues. To capitalize on the sensational story, the newspaper reinstates Ann and recruits John Willoughby to play the role of "Doe."
