Overview

At the Empire Zinc mine in New Mexico, Mexican-American laborers band together to challenge hazardous working conditions and wage disparities with their Anglo peers. Ramon Quintero emerges as a strike leader but faces criticism for his own unfair treatment of his pregnant wife, Esperanza. When authorities issue an injunction halting the men's protests, the situation shifts dramatically.
