Salt of the Earth (1954)
At the Empire Zinc mine in New Mexico, Mexican-American laborers band together to challenge hazardous working conditions and wage disparities with their Anglo peers. Ramon Quintero emerges as a strike leader but faces criticism for his own unfair treatment of his pregnant wife, Esperanza. When authorities issue an injunction halting the men's protests, the situation shifts dramatically. Women take up the cause, stepping onto the picket lines as their husbands remain at home, highlighting the complexities of gender roles in the fight for justice and equality.
