Overview

Ichikawa's 1956 adaptation of Kyoka Izumi's work, previously seen as simple melodrama, reinterprets it through a lens of decadence and aestheticism. The narrative centers on two competing geishas, Oko and Kiyoha, as they vie for supremacy in Nihonbashi, the heart of Tokyo's geisha culture.
