It Was a Faint Dream (1974)
In 13th century Kyoto, the Imperial court is dominated by religious authorities. Shijo, a peasant girl, is sold into concubinage with a wealthy daima, but the monotony of her life soon drives her to seek excitement in an affair with a State Councillor, who happens to be the brother of a former Emperor. As she grapples with her role as merely a pawn in the court's games, Shijo ultimately renounces her past, embracing a new path as a wandering nun across the countryside.
