Overview

Oya, a newly assigned teacher, arrives in Söğütlü Village only to find there’s no school—and no one can read or write. She begins teaching in a newly built school, helped only by Fatma, the mayor’s daughter, and a man named Yanık Bekir. Onbaşı, used to getting what he wants, becomes infatuated with Oya. When she rejects him, he falsely accuses Fatma. Major Pala Suat steps in, clearing Fatma’s name. As World War I reaches the village, Oya seeks shelter with the major and decides to join his fight against the occupation.
