A Cowgirl's Story

Overview

Dusty Rhodes arrives at Jefferson High, a Texas cowgirl with a unique style that sets her apart. With parents serving in the U.S. Army—her mother as a helicopter pilot and her father as a Special Forces Ranger—she initially faces isolation. Over time, she befriends Savanah, a Goth girl grappling with her father's death in Iraq. Their unexpected friendship deepens, leading Dusty to advocate for an Equestrian Drill Team, rallying her urban classmates to join. As they prepare for performances, Dusty confronts her anxieties about her mother's deployment in Afghanistan, forging resilience and camaraderie along the way.
