Set against the backdrop of the Italian Renaissance, Pope Julius II commissions Michelangelo to create 40 statues for his tomb. However, the pope shifts his vision, insisting that Michelangelo instead paint a mural in the Sistine Chapel. Doubtful of his painting abilities, Michelangelo initially walks away from the task. Yet, a spark of divine inspiration reignites his passion, propelling him back to the chapel. As he immerses himself in his work, a fierce battle of wills ensues with the pope, testing both their artistic ambitions and the fate of this monumental masterpiece.
