Overview

Frank Gibbons comes home from military service in 1919, settling into a middle-class row house in the suburbs with his wife Ethel, her nagging mother Mrs. Flint, sister-in-law Sylvia, and their three children. As the years unfold, the family's life is a blend of bickering and making up, punctuated by labor strikes, community celebrations, and the looming shadow of another World War.
